The aim of this interdisciplinary
program is to integrate molecular and cellular principles of biology
with the core principles of food, chemical, electrical, mechanical
engineering and computer science in order to create a new intellectual
multidisciplinary approach to serve our community. The mission of the
programme is to endow students with the broad scientific and
technological background required in different industrial applications.
This will create a human potential with diverse background enabling
opportunity to work in different areas of the industry or can
contribute to current research projects at universities. Biotechnology
and Bioengineering cover the technology and biological systems that are
involved in the production of high value products from an engineering
point of view. Therefore in this programme the research areas and
thesis topics are chosen so as to address the national and
international economic and safety interests. Students of diverse
background with a Bachelor of Science degree from different departments
such as Food, Chemical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering, Chemistry,
Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Medicine and related fields
are admitted. The program currently grants a MSc degree in
Biotechnology and PhD degree in
Bioengineering.
