MATERIAL CONSERVATION LABORATORY

The Laboratory Equipment

Instruments that are used for the micro-climatic studies carried out in the conservation of historic buildings:

  • Instruments measuring relative humidity, absolute humidity, dew point, surface temperature, wind speed and carbondioxide content in the air

  • Instruments measuring humidity within a material

Instruments that are used for the determination of physical, mechanical, mineralogical, petrographical and chemical properties of historic building materials:

  • FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared)

  • UV-Visible spectrophotometer

  • Flame Photometer

  • Polarizing microscope equipped with video camera, photomicrograhpic system and computer

  • Zoom stereo microscope with photomicrograhpic equipment

  • Instrument for preparation of thin section (till 5 mm thickness)

  • Grinding and polishing machine (till 50 mm thickness)

  • Point load test apparatus

  • PH / conductivity handled meter

  • Analytical sieve shaker and sieves

  • Precision balances

  • Electronic moisture analyzer

  • pH meter

  • Ovens

  • Vacuum oven

  • Water stills

  • Stone cutting tool
